• Sep-9 ICNL Sunday school registration is scheduled for Sunday, September 9th at 10:00 A.M. Parents, students and teachers should plan to attend. The fees are due at this time. Please contact Br. • Sep-8 ICNL General Assembly Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 8th starting at Asr (5:15 PM) through Maghrib (7:30 PM) The General Assembly Meeting with the monthly potluck. At the meeting the President of the Board (Br. Altaf) will present the a State of the Community address, the Treasurer (Br. Husein) will present the Annual Budget and the Search Committee Chair (Br. Imran) will present the learning’s from the Imam Search Process closure. Please plan to attend and bring a dish.

• Sep-1 ICNL community is invited to attend the Taste of Culture Diversity Fair on Saturday, September 1st. The Fair will be at the New London Pier near the train station starting at 12 Noon and going through 4 PM. The ICNL and CAIR-CT is sponsoring a booth at the Fair to do Dawah, display Islamic arts and posters, and to sell Palestinian handicrafts and olive oil to help refugees. Why Islam will join us at the booth along with our multi faith partner, the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme. Please plan to attend and bring along your friends and family.

Aug 2007:

• Aug-20 ICNL Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Br. Riyad Thabata has accepted the Imam position at the Islamic Center of New London effective November 1st, 2007. Imam Riyad is originally from Palestine where he did his Islamic studies and also became a Hafez of Qur’an. He immigrated to the United States in 1991 residing in Patterson , New Jersey . During the period of 1991 through 2005, he was involved in teaching Islamic studies and Arabic in area Masajid- including holding position as Imam. He also completed a B.A. in Sociology. In 2005, he moved to Georgia as Imam at the Dalton Islamic Center. Please join us to welcome Imam Riyad to our community.

• ICNL Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Hafez Abdul Salaam, who led Taraweh prayers at the Center last year, has agreed to a contract to lead Taraweh prayers during this Ramadan also.

July 2007:

• July-27/28 Knowledge Share Program; ICNL conducted a workshop about "Job Search and Resume Building" on Saturday and Sunday July 27, 28 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm by Mohammed Choudhry; Ex-Faculty University of Dallas, TX USA. June 2007:

• June-17 ICNL Sunday School Graduation: Sunday June 17, at 10:30 AM The Program included wonderful performance by Sister Haifa's class (Pre-K), followed by a Dua'a presentation by Sister Sabeeba's Level 1-B class followed by some fun activities for the students and finally the certificates/graduation gift handout. • The event also included a monetary gift handout from ICNL youth club (represented by Khadejeh Al-Rijleh and  Ambreen Qadri) to New London Homeless Hospitality Center represented by Emmett Jarrett from the St. Francis House.

May 2007:

July 2006:

• July-8 300 pm- 11:00 pm ICNL annual picnic at the Masjid. Muslims from different nearby communities joined our annual picnic on the Thames river, everyone enjoyed the delicious BBQ and the NL fireworks show on Thames river. Click HERE for some pictures of the event.

June 2006:

• June-18 at 10 am, Sunday School Graduation day. The Program included wonderful performance by Sister Amina's class, followed by a poem by Aysha Mansour, followed by the certificates/graduation gift handout. Honor student for this year was Zainab Ladipo (congratulations). The event was concluded with lunch and then students were excited with the bounce room which was rented for this occasion. • June-7 at 10 am, ICNL hosted a women's gathering for two sisters from Gaza, followed by lunch. About 40 women attended the event. Click HERE for some pictures of the event.

May 2006:

• May-9 ICNL.COM acquisition. Our website www.IslamicCenterofNewLondon.com can now be accessed by typing www.icnl.com or ICNL.COM at your browser, both the old name and the new name of the website will still work. The new domain name was purchased early this month. Alhamdolellah.

• May-7 ICNL Open House 2006 Sunday May 7, 2006, 4:00 - 7:30 PM. Location: Islamic Center of New London, 16 Fort st. Groton, CT. The program includes introduction about Islam and Muslims, question and answer session and other activities. Everyone is invited. The program will conclude with dinner. • Apr-2 (Neighbors Engaging Neighbors) ICNL attended Open House at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme on Sunday Apr 2nd from 4:00 to 6:30 pm. These series of open houses are intended to teach the basics of each faith traditions and answer questions, the first Open House was held at Temple Emanuel.

Mar 2006:

• Mar-31 ICNL invited a guest speaker, Dr. Sheikh Hasan Abu Nar to speak at the Friday Islamic Circle. The topic was "How to build your IMAN based on Prophet Mosa's experience". The lecture was followed by a question and answer session and the event was concluded with some Arabic sweets. Click HERE for some pictures from the event.

• Mar-12 ICNL Sunday school hosted a poster exhibition, where all kids at the Sunday school presented some of their work. Click HERE for some pictures from the event.

Feb 2006:

• Feb-19 ICNL Sunday school teachers attended a Professional Development day, held at the Islamic School of Rhode Island. Topics covered: Qualities of the teachers of an Islamic School, Improving teacher performance, how to promote positive behavior in the classroom and other topics

• Announcement: ICNL statement in regard to the caricature depiction of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) published by several European publications and media outlets.

Jan 2006:

• Jan-27 ICNL honors the Hajis (Pilgrims) from the community, in a reception after Isha prayer (Friday Jan 27, 2006), each Haji talked about his experience during the Haj. Click HERE for some pictures from the event.

Oct 2005:

• Oct-5 The first day of The month of Ramadan will be of Wednesday Oct, 15, Tarawih prayers is 8PM on weekdays and 7:30PM on weekends. Break-fast will be served on every weekend of the Month insha'Allah.

Aug 2005:

• Aug-18 Sisters picnic has been arranged by sister Amenah Masri the sisters community affairs Director, about 20 sisters have participated, kids had fun as well. • May-14 Potluck (5:00 pm) A'keeka for Br Hassan Mansour new born boy (Yahya). The event included food followed by a presentation about the situation in Palestine, and closing with General Assembly Meeting.

Mar 2005:

• Mar-19 Elections was held in the Masjid for the new Board of Directors, Over 42 members participated in the voting process, ICNL Potluck and Elections started at 3:30 pm, followed by General Assembly Meeting where the previous board presented their achievements and future challenges. Feb 2005:

• Feb-19 General Assembly Meeting (GAM 05) was held from 5:30 pm where the community had a Potluck Iftar program (for Ashora day fasting), it was followed by the General Assembly where Br Imran Ahmed introduced the constitution amendments through a screen presentation, many comments was gathered and overall agreement on most issues were agreed upon. • Jan-20 Eidul Adha Al-Mubarak, ICNL is pleased to announce that Eidul Adha is going to be on Thursday, January 20, 2005, the standing on Arafat will be on Wednesday, January 19, 2005 based on the announcement of the Fiqh council of Saudi Arabia." Nov 2004:

• Islamic Society of Rutgers University official newspaper (Nasihah) has published one of Br. Saeed Shaikh articles (Taqwa: Sum of All Good) in its Ramadan issue. The newsletter provides a wealth of nice articles about Islam and Ramadan and you can read Br Saeed's interesting article on page 8 of the newsletter. • Sep- 12 ICNL Sunday school started on Sunday Sep 12 at full speed with over 65 students, currently offering 10 levels starting from pre-k (Ages 4-6) up to the adults class (over 16 years). May 2004:

• May-3 Our community lost one of its beloved members (Sister Judy) who passed away Monday 3:20 am. She was well known for her devotion and love to Islam and Muslims. Janazah prayer was done at ICNL Masjid and she was buried in Enfield Islamic cemetery. May Allah accepts her in His Jannah, Ameen. [Directions to the cemetery]

• May-2 ICNL Sunday school made a field trip to Madina Masjid Sunday school in S. Windsor, CT. Over 31 students participated along with 15 parents and teachers in this rainy day trip!!!. ICNL Sunday school group was well welcomed by Madina Masjid community and its hosting Sunday school, May Allah reward them. This trip was aimed to build bridges between our communities and give the students an opportunity to socialize with their peers in Windsor. The group departed from Groton at 10:10 am and returned at 2:45 pm. Click HERE for some pictures.

• Feb-13 Bone Marrow Drive at ICNL. After Friday prayer, more than 20 brothers gathered for the Bone Marrow drive. Jazakom Allah khair.

• Feb-1 Eidul-Adha Al-Mubarak confirmed to be on Sunday February 1, 2004. ( The hajj authority of Mecca decided to have wuquf (standing) at the mountain of Arafat for the pilgrims on January 31st; therefore the Eid Al-Adha will be on Sunday February 1st).

Dec 2003:

• Dec-19 New Carpet installation completed Alhamdolellah.

April 2003:

The Islamic Center of New London (ICNL) is opposed to any war of aggression or preemptive military actions against any people or nation that results in loss of life, human dignity and personal property.  Such dangerous adventurism is unjustified in Islam and constitutes a transgression against humanity.  In accord with many of the faith communities around the world, we strongly condemn the U.S. led war of aggression against Iraq and we pray to Allah for safety of the Iraqi people in this time of crisis

• Oct-6 A school group comprising about 15 guests from the Taftville Congregational Church led by Rev. Michael Ader visited the ICNL to learn about Islam, observe the Islamic school in session, and to talk to teachers and students. Alhamdulellah- the information session went very well and the guests walked away with a much better understanding about Islam and Muslims.

• The Iftar calendar for Ramadan is being coordinated by Sister Maliha Ahmed, Community Director, ICNL.  Saturdays will be reserved for Community Iftar at the ICNL. Please plan to be there and do not schedule competing programs, out-of-town visits or personal events on this day, if at all possible. Fridays and Sundays will also be available to sponsors on a first-come-first-serve basis. Slots are going fast. So, please contact Sister Maliha at your earliest convenience @ 860-691-8015.

Br Sajjad talks about Year-In-Review: 2001 Accomplishments, Current Status, and Focus Areas for the Future, Also Br. Maher will give a presentation about the Financial Report, Br Mahmoud will talk about "The Role of the Mosque in Muslim Community".

• Dec 16 Eid Al-Fitr party starts on Sunday Dec 16 and will be held in the Masjid. Activities starts at 3:00 PM sharp, and we will have dinner at 6:00 PM.

  • First Friday Prayer will be offered in the new Masjid starting Nov 23, 2001.

  • Repair and furnishing process has started to prepare the property for prayer and the upcoming Ramadan activities.

  • Building has been purchased and closing was done on Friday Nov 9, 2001.

  • An offer has been accepted to purchase a church located at 16 Fort St. Groton, CT 06340, and will be used as our permanent Masjid insha'Allah, the building and its 2 attached apartments are located on the Thames river.

• Nov. 2 ICNL Board discussed the preparation and organization for the upcoming Ramadan activities and the new masjid.

October 2001:

• Oct 28: Interfaith Forum (Title- The Politics of Religion or the Religion of Politics).

The Islamic Center of New London and the Beth El Synagogue has agreed to co-sponsor an interfaith Forum to educate the public on the mainstream religious perspective on politics and violence, and to discuss ways to prevent religion from being used as a pretext to justify extremism and terrorism.
    Time and place: The Garde Theatre, New London
                            Sunday, October 28
                            4 P.M. to 6 P.M.
Participants:
- Representatives from the Islamic Community.
- Representatives from the Jewish community.
- Representatives from the Christian community
- Others (Hindu community and the Native American Community)
Forum format:
The Forum will have two parts. First, Key note presentations by 3 invited speakers on selected theme topics. Second, a Panel Discussion where representatives from the local faith communities will answer question from the audience.

• ICNL urges all members of the center to donate generously to the Islamic center new building purchase in Groton. We hope by the will of Allah to be able to close before the end of this month so we can have time to prepare the place before the month of Ramadan.

September 2001:

9-11-2001 The American Muslim community of New London is deeply saddened by the tragic actions that contradict all human and religious values. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the families of the victims of this tragedy. In this time of national tragedy we must stand united and not rush to blame an entire ethnic group or faith community.  ICNL urge their members to donate their blood the injured victims of the tragedy.
